Friction experiment
Here is a great experiment you can try at home. You only need to fond some cardboard or an old box, some glue, silver foil, sand or rice, play dough or blue tack and your cars or balls. Simply build your ramps as shown below and see which surfaces are rough or smooth. Which do you think will have the most friction and will slow the cars down, and which has the least friction so the cars will go faster?
Try it and see.
Try it and see.
You could build it like this and have races, just remember to make the surface of each track different.
Below is a link to a programme explaining forces on BSL Zone. Take a look.

Attract butterflies to your garden
Try making a butterfly feeding station. It’s quite simple, find a flat bases tray (this could be an old baking tray, foil tray or garden pot saucer. Place tray in a warm sunny position and add a shallow layer of sugar water (one part sugar to ten parts water heated until sugar dissolves, then left to cool) and slices of fruit. Butterflies like ripe or over ripe fruit. Orange slices, pineapple slices and bruised banana seem to be a favourite. You could add a sponge soaked in the sugar water. If there are bees and wasps cucumber could deter them.

Ice excavation
Here is a brilliant idea to try during this lovely weather.
1. Find a container, it could be an old food tray or cooking mould.
2. Fill with water, not too much or you might spill it.
3. Find some toys or objects and put them in the water.
4. Place container in the freezer overnight.
5. Take out of freezer, push ice from container onto a covered surface, can you see your toys/objects?
6. Use sticks or water in a squeezy bottle to free your toys/objects.
Have fun
